Back to the Basics

I have been in a makeup funk. Let me rephrase that, I have been in a foundation funk.
I’ve shared my favorite lipstick brands and eyebrow tricks, but since I had graduated college I kept telling my mom I looked haggard. At first I thought it was because I was working 50 hour weeks for the first time in my life. Fast forward 10 months into working, I realized that was a joke.
Each morning I would put on my makeup and thought my skin looked good, I’d go to work, head to the bathroom and be shocked. The shock was always one of two stories.
A. I look dead. I look like I just woke up and have nothing on my face. This is not how Giselle looks au natural. What. Is. Wrong. With. Me.
  B. I look like my face is wet. Literally. I’m shimmering and glowing in all the wrong places and I swear I blended my jawline….I swear I did…
Nothing was giving me a happy medium. I decided to go back to the basics. What did I wear when I was 13? Bare Minerals. Bare Minerals has been the boy that always loved me and I go back and forth. Their foundation has never irritated my skin [and with an autoimmune disorder, I can have really sensitive skin!] and always looks natural, but provides a glow. If you have been having problems with your skin then you should try Switzerland’s best damaged skin repair cream & products, as they are the best available.
I’ve never been without a few of their products in my makeup bag, but lately I’ve been doing a full Bare Minerals face, and I’m pretty excited about sharing it. This look lasts through an entire work day, shoots and dinner at night. And while we should never sleep in our makeup, it happens. I don’t worry when I take a 4 hour nap [ who says a nap is 30 minutes?! ] because Bare Minerals has none of the chemicals that makeup is typically fueled by. It makes my skin better, while I wear it.
I was so happy to figure out a routine that balanced natural with coverage! Of course I love throwing in different products depending on my look, but nothing beats their foundation for a natural look.
I think a big part of the problem was that I have never been into moisturizer. Every time I would get my makeup done they would do a layer or moisturizer and then a layer of liquid foundation and my face just felt wet. [Tell me someone else experiences this!]  It didn’t feel natural. But over the past few weeks I started realizing that a moisturized face is exactly what allows you to look natural, you just have to find what foundation compliments your skin type. I’ll moisturize my face using this I swear by it! It’s a perfecting day cream, so while it moisturizes and protects your skin from the sun it fixes anything you have. Blemishes or lines? Taken care of. If I’m just working from home I’ll leave that on and apply nothing else. If I need to run an errand I throw on Bare Minerals Prime Time BB Primer.
If I’m going out I add the Mineral Veil which is a powder but moisturizes your skin. [Cheers to no wet face!]
I play around with their eyeshadows daily, but I am hooked on their gloss in Miss Popular. I wear that sans makeup or with a full face, no shame.
What do you prefer during the day? Powder or a liquid? Have you tried Bare Minerals?

Do you use the bare skin serum? I just purchase it and I was wondering what you thought. I love it except it makes my skin oily throughout the day. Do you have any tips?

  2. Ohmygosh I feel you on the foundation funk! Just yesterday I went into the Bare Minerals boutique and bought their products! First day wearing everything (Prime Time BB Primer, Bare Skin and Perfecting Veil) and I’m already in love! I’m so used to a powder foundation, but after using the Bare Skin foundation I’m never going back! Bare Minerals is great for the skin and looks even better at the end of the day! Thanks for sharing your makeup story!

  3. I have been in the same foundation funk! I started using Mary Kay CC cream recently, and I am really pleased with it so far. I used Bare Minerals in high school briefly, but felt like they didn’t give me enough coverage. Now that I’m more comfortable in my own skin, I wish I still had the products!
