2014 Product Review

I’m trying to finish up 2014 and start 2015 with a little more beauty posts, because at this point I’m just kinda, sorta tired of buying baggy sweaters. 😉
Typically I go by the rule, “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say it at all.” If I don’t write about or review a product it just means I didn’t care for it. The world needs a lot more positivity, so I’d just prefer to write about the products I love and trust. If a product didn’t work for me that doesn’t mean it won’t work for other girls.  However, there have been a few products I’ve stashed in a bag that I seriously don’t understand. I’ve tried to love them, tried to get my sister/friends to love them and nope. Just. Don’t. Get. It. So I thought I’d do a 2014 product review with my absolute favorites and least favorites!
Maybe you had a better experience with the products and can tell me what I’m doing wrong!
Products I loved:
Too Faced Candlelight Glow: If I’m being honest, I probably go a little overboard on highlighter. It’s like the icing of makeup and who doesn’t like icing?! However, I’ve found that most highlighters are either extremely matte and look chalky or full of glitter. This Too Faced highlighter is the best of both worlds, you get an angel glow with no glitter! I put it all over my face…and arms…and sometimes legs. Oops.
Bliss Peel: Peels scare put the fear of God in me. I’m always scared I’ll wake up with a red face. But my skin has peeled a lot this winter [a combo of autoimmune, cold and dry skin]. This one is really gentle and I can go a few days without makeup after because my skin looks so smooth. It will tingle when you put it on, just wait 30 seconds and apply your moisturizer! Then it goes away.
MAC Antiqued: I’ve got green eyes, so purple eyeshadow tones have been drilled in me since youth. However, I’ve always wanted to pull off a deep brown/copper. I think I went into a Youtube coma for a few hours, finally found this that was recommended and I’ve been addicted. You can apply it lightly for day or dark for night, and either way I feel a lot more tan with it!
Philosophy Fresh Cream: I now know what Jesus smells like. I have to order this online because no stores ever have it in stock, but I’m completely fine being absurd and stocking up on lotion online.
Bare Minerals Blush: I’m a Bare Minerals girl and can’t get enough of their blushes. I read a few years ago that this is all Emily Maynard uses and so I followed in that beauties footsteps. They are never chalky and always give you such a healthy look.
OCC Lip Tar: I’m always on the hunt for a pinky-nude lip and this is hands down my favorite. It is in the shade Pleasure Model.
Lancome Grandiose: If drugstore mascaras don’t work for you, this brush gets every single lash!
Bobbi Brown Blush Brush: This is seriously the only blush brush I can use. I’ve loved it for 2 years now, and if I go anywhere else to do my makeup I will seriously just skip blush. Something about the curve makes it really easy to contour!
Products I didn’t care for:

Deborah Lippman Gel Lab: It’s nail polish, so why on earth should I even complain? It’s $45 and promises the longevity of gel nails. I at least expected 4 a days no chip. I sat, watched Netflix, patiently gave myself an hour manicure. My nails looked like an ogre had gnawed on them in two days. It was probably the product that irritated me the most, because it is such an expensive top coat and I usually love her polishes!
Josie Maran Argan Cleansing Oil: I love cleansing oils and cleansing balms. I also love Argan Oil. I figured mixing the two and I would be in heaven. This product is so gross to me. I’ve used a ton of oil cleansers before, but something with this texture makes it not smooth. It feels like I’m rubbing honey off my face and it can’t get my mascara off. Not a fan. It also leaks like mad.
Tata Harper Concentrated Brightening Serum: I love her face mask, but I can’t tell any different using this product. It’s pretty expensive and I’m just using it up so I don’t throw money away. But seriously…I could probably rub cool whip on my face and see the same results.
Tarte Contour Brush: This is the product that I have to think I’m using incorrectly. I’ve tried it a million different ways, blended it out and it always looks so heavy.

  1. What lip tar color would you recommend for a brunette with olive skin? Do you think the pleasure model will have the same nude/pink look on a brunette?

    • Pleasure model would still look great! My mom is brunette with olive skin and wears it, too! 😊

  2. I’ve been getting more into Bare Minerals so I definitely feel reassured that you like it! I also need to try that Too Faced Candlelight Glow, it’s been on my wish list forever!

    Loved this!
