I don’t know if y’all have been paying attention to this blog lately, but we are not afraid of mixing. Colors, textures, patterns… we do it all. Sometimes it comes out fabulous. Sometimes not so much. But we like to have fun with our clothes (hence why we have a blog dedicated to writing about them) so one outfit that doesn’t turn out great is worth all of the outfits that we throw together that end up being our new fave. For this week anyway.
Let me give you a little print-mixing tutorial. First, some basics to guide you:
1. Stick to the same color family. If you’re wearing a floral top with pinks, reds, and oranges, you’re going to look really weird pairing it with green polka dots.
2. Pair a smaller, more intricate print with a large and simple print. Never do two pieces that are super busy.
3. Keep jewelry simple. Maybe don’t wear any at all. Katey will punish me later for saying that.
When you first start out, nothing is going to look right. You’re going to put two pieces on together and feel self-conscious. My best advice is to find your
bitchiest most honest friend and ask her what you look like. If you sense hesitation, something probably isn’t right. Unless your honest friend doesn’t have very good style, in which case you should just rock it and judge the quality of the outfit by how many compliments you get.
People with the best style are people that take risks. Do you ever walk down the street and see a girl wearing a white v-neck and jeans and think “That girl has great style!” Probably not… and if you do, you probably shouldn’t read any further because you’ll absolutely hate our blog.
So the next time you’re raiding your closet thinking you have nothing to wear, try pulling out two things you wouldn’t usually pair. It’ll make it seem like your wardrobe doubled over night.
