Summer Reading List

The Details

Last week I got caught up on my direct messages and one of the most common requests was for an updated reading list! Your wish is my command. šŸ™‚ I’ve racked up quite a stack of books on my nightstand with all of our bookstore trips as of late. One of my favorite activities with Maxi is to take her to Barnes & Noble and let her read books, play with the trains, and just browse. Shes *very* into “reading” to me right now and her little noises she makes for each page crack me up. I’ve managed to somehow buy a book for myself each trip, even though I really only get around to reading one book or so a month. I thought I’d share what is on my nightstandĀ so you can have a running list for your next read!

  • The Woman in the Window: This was last month’s read, and while the middle can be a little slow the ending is unreal. I kept rereading the last 20 pages because I was so confused how I didn’t catch on that this is what would happen. If you hate a predictable ending, you’ll want to read this.
  • The Marriage Lie: I was obsessed with this book. Read it on the treadmill. Read it in parking lots waiting for appointments. I couldn’t put it down. I’m still waiting for a book to hook me like this one, and the nice thing is you get hooked within the first 15 pages. I remember myĀ 6th-grade teacher always said to give a book 50 pages to make sure it gets a fair chance. Sometimes I’m impatient. šŸ˜‰
  • After I Do: If you need a fast read, grab this! I read it on my flight in May from SFO to Dallas. While the book is about a marriage crumbling, the premise of it can be applied to so many areas of life. You get connected to the characters, which I love. If you have a lot going on but want an enjoyable and easy read, I recommend this.
  • The French Girl: This is the book I’m currently reading! I picked this up after seeing at least a dozen girls on Instagram post it to their stories. I’m only a few chapters in, but I’m loving all the complicated dynamics within the characters.
  • The Wife Between Us: My girlfriend snapped me a pic of all the books she had read on her kindle lately and she said out of the 40+ books this was the one I *had* to read! I haven’t read it yet, but can’t wait!
  • The Idea of You: Two of my girlfriends have read this book and theyĀ continually talk about it after they read it. The way they describe it, I think it has a sad ending?! {If you have read it don’t tell us just yet!} I think I’ll read this after The French Girl because I love those books that affect you days after!
  • The Perfect Couple: This is a book I’ve heard is great for vacation or the beach! It is centered around a wedding weekend and a body being discovered- you know my usual favorite plot twists. šŸ˜‰
  • Bring Me Back: This was another book from my friend’s Kindle list, and just the summary on Amazon has me hooked. It’s a thriller that I think I’ll read on our weekend trip to Nashville in a few weeks!
  • All We Ever Wanted: My friend, Diana, just got back from a beach trip and read this on vacation. She texted me 5 times on her trip telling me I had to read this next! I mean do Emily Giffin books ever fail us?!
  • Parenting: Love & Logic Magic for Early Childhood, Missional Motherhood: In the mornings, I like Maxi to have about 15 minutes of “free play” where she can just use her imagination and play by herself. I’ll sit on our playroom couch and read a parenting book. Missional Motherhood is faith-based and I tie that into my devotional time.Ā Love & Logic for Early ChildhoodĀ is the book all my mama friends say I must read, so that is what I’m currently on. šŸ™‚ Maxi is 18 months on Saturday, so I really feel like now is the time I can start understanding what her different behaviors mean.
  • Devotional: Awaken: This is my current devotional I’ve been doing in the morning and I can’t say enough good things about it. Some shorter devotionals can seem nice but don’t leave me wanting to dig more into my bible, this is the exact opposite! This one takes 10 minutes or so to read, but it really has me thinking the rest of the day.

What are you currently reading?!

I am reading a hilarious book that I think your readers with teenagers would find very entertaining too. It is called How Hard Can it Be by Allison Pearson.

Both amazing, but, next Year in Havana has easily become my favorite book. I actually cried when it was over. Dramatic, I know. Haha
