Do You DEEP Clean Your Scalp?

The Details

Pantene Charcoal Shampoo | Pantene Charcoal Conditioner | Photography by: Angie Garcia | Sponsored by Pantene, All Opinions are My Own

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Pantene. The opinions and text are all mine.

We scrub our bodies. We mask our faces with peel-off charcoal. We even juice with charcoal lemonade to “deep clean” our bodies. But all these systems have a built-in purification system. Your body cleanses itself and your skin purifies itself. But your scalp? Did you know your scalp doesn’t?!

When I learned that fun fact about 2 months ago, I cringed a little. I only wash my hair two or three times a week as I have more textured hair, and if I washed every single day- well, it would be dry-hair city over here. The dry shampoo build up, the product residue, the pollution, the oils….no wonder we spend so much of our beauty routine trying to avoid bad hair days.

I went on a detox shampoo “journey” if you will, to find a shampoo I could use once or twice a week that would deep clean. I double cleanse, scrub, and mask my face- so I figured my scalp needed the same amount of TLC. I tried and bought expensive clarifying shampoos, pricy scalp scrubs, and then one Amazon gem- the Pantene Charcoal Collection. Your wallet will be thrilled to know my favorite and I’m thrilled to partner with Pantene to share my thoughts with you all today.

If you are all about beauty trends {which I have a hunch you probably are if you are reading COF} you know Charcoal is queen as of late. From the peel-off mask challenges you see on Facebook to activated charcoal for teeth whitening, it’s everywhere- and for good reason. Charcoal is a natural purifier, but it is gentle. A few of the more expensive clarifying shampoos I tried left my hair feeling stripped, and they weren’t for color treated hair. I got a little nervous I’d be affecting my highlights. But the cool thing about the Pantene Charcoal Collection is that it is silicone-free, paraben-free, dye-free and is totally safe for your color-treated hair. The activated charcoal attracts all your dirt and grime {aka, your 4th round of dry shampoo} like a magnet, gently releasing it all from your scalp. When it does this, it releases pro-vitamin B5 and antioxidants and so your hair is left cleaner, shinier, and softer.

But let’s talk about my favorite part. And this my fellow blondes, is the reason I nearly jumped out of my seat to partner on this post. Using this postponed my next hair appointment.

If you struggle with fighting brassy tones, chances are you are going in for “toning appointments” with your stylist and researching shampoos that keep brass at bay. A lot of times, brass can come from mineral build-up on your hair, along with parabens, silicones, and pollution.

By using this product at least once or twice a week, I found my current blonde melt {which shows brass so quickly!} stayed cool toned. I canceled my September 7th appointment and don’t think I’ll need to go in until the beginning of October.

And even if you aren’t blonde and you don’t religiously use dry shampoo, you will love this with an oily scalp. Paul has a more oily scalp than I do, and this product helps balance your scalp- which can help with less washes in the future.

I’m also really excited to share a promotion Amazon are running until October 31. Click here, use the promo code “20PNTCHAR” to receive 20% off the Charcoal Collection Shampoo and Conditioner bundle when purchased together. On your next drugstore run, try this detox for your scalp! Let me know what you think! P.S. the smell. Smells like a Kate Middleton. Or at least what I imagine she smells like?!

  1. I’ve never thought of exfoliating my scalp, but it makes a lot of sense. It’s true that we pay attention to our faces but always seem to miss our heads. Thank you for the reminder! 🙂

Would love to try this shampoo and conditioner! I use a ton of dry shampoo during the week since I only wash my hair once or twice a week. I’ve been using a bumble and bumble clarifying shampoo, but would love to find a cheaper option. Thanks for the review!

Okay, so once I read this post I HAD to have this. I have been researching charcoal shampoos forever and have been waiting to take the plunge. I went out and bought some this weekend and am already obsessed. And my wallet DEFINITELY thanked me. When I saw the prince in the store, I was literally shocked. Thanks for recommending such an AWESOME product Katey.

You had me at “Using this postponed my next hair appointment.” How I loathe paying for a color appointment just because of the brassy tones! I’ve tried just about every purple shampoo under the sun and it still doesn’t hold up. Anxious to try this!
