Summer Workout Look

The Details

In April and May, I try to spend most of our active time outside. I know that all too soon, the air will be filled with sticky humidity, 100 degrees, and mosquitos swaying about. So I force us to stay outside while we can enjoy it! Last night we had dinner on the patio and it felt absolutely delightful! I had Maxi stay up a little later just so we could squeeze in an extra walk with the weather. We’ve been walking around 3 or 4 miles a day and can I just say pulling a wagon for those miles exhausts me far more than any other workout?! Like I’m talking we get home at 7, we bathe Maxi, I shower, and I am PASSED OUT by 8 p.m.

This blog post isn’t about our wagon, but I did want to include it because many of you have been curious about the details on it! Paul bought it at Nordstrom while I was at Ashley’s baby shower. Paul doesn’t necessarily have “toys” he gets into, but he gets really into kid gear! haha. He’s quite opinionated on strollers and wagons alike, so he researched, went to Nordstrom, bought this, and surprised me! I could get the man kid get for Father’s Day and he’d probably be happier than with any other gift. Are wagons to dads what handbags are to women?!

He was quite proud because he said that at least 6 moms asked him what it was at Nordstrom, so he felt very on top of it. 😉 But jokes aside, Maxi won’t stay in a stroller anymore. The stroller lost its appeal many months ago, but she’ll stay in a wagon for hours. This can go through the mud at festivals, on the beach, the mall, anywhere! We have trails in our neighborhood it easily goes on, as well. So it makes our walks well worth it! Running errands was getting a tad bit stressful with her despising a stroller, so bless my husband for geeking out over a wagon. This has made things much easier.

This is Maxi in her wagon from our local Mayfest festival this weekend. She got a kick out of confetti eggs!

But back to this blog post, let’s talk workout looks for this time of year. We are outside every single day, so I got a new outfit option for spring and summer! I ordered these mesh shorts and mesh jacket from Nordstrom and love the hue. It’s called a rose gold and ivory but has a peach tone, which I’m all about this time of year. These come in a more oversized fit, so I would size down. The XS works for me, but I’d typically wear a S in shorts or a workout jacket, so keep that in mind!

If you want to buy an active look that has a bit of a trendy touch to it, here’s a little shopping hack! When shopping online at Nordstrom, filter it to the Topshop & Trend section here. There, you can filter to Nike, Adidas, or your favorite brand! You’re kind of bypassing the traditional activewear section here and then going through the young customer category. You get a good mix of loungewear and activewear doing this, and you can get all the trendy stuff before it sells out. 😉

Here are a few of my favorite pieces in stock doing that approach!

If Maxi sleeps in while Paul is getting ready, I’ll take Peaches on a walk at 7, and I can throw on this look, take Maxi to the grocery store, the park, etc. and it’s still something different than leggings! Plus, I’m on such a peach kick {trying to convince my dad and Paul to help me paint Maxi’s room peach} that this is right up my alley.

Now speaking of moms or dog moms, how do you handle the summer months? I know Maxi is going to be whining at the back door all summer wanting to go outside. She has swim lessons 3 days a week and I know we will spend most of our afternoons at the pool- but what about those heat index days in Texas?! Do you just take them to water or take them to museums? I normally just walk Peaches at 7 am those days, but know I’ll have a toddler wanting to be in 105 degrees come 3 p.m.! I’m not sure why I’m overthinking it, but it probably has something to do with the fact we spend most of our days outside!

The great thing about this little mesh jacket is that it’s moisture-wicking and ultra light- so you can wear while running errands in warmer weather. It’s an added layer for style, but not added warmth or weight. It also has little ties on the side, so if you wore this with leggings and wanted it to have more of a cropped cut, you just tie the strings and it will pull up, so you can get two different looks in one. And the shorts also have ties so you can adjust the waist as needed.

How do you spend your spring outside?! Any new looks you are loving?

Talk to you tomorrow!

We live in AZ so during the summer we live in the pool AM and evenings, at splash pads, and at indoor playgrounds when it’s super hot in the afternoon. I also stock up on toddler activities and you can follow @busytoddler for lots of good ideas!!

    Hi Katey,

These are the best days! Could you tell me where to find your self tanner routine? I know I read it on your blog a while back, but I can’t locate it.

    Thanks! Pamm

Do you have to get in the water with Maxi for swim? We do once a week, and I can’t imagine getting in the pool more than that. It’s exhausting getting a toddler and yourself ready before and then after, too!

I think a kids wagon is to a man what a diaper bag is to a woman .. they want to look good with it but for it to also be functional for themselves and their child! Love the one y’all picked out!
