Sunscreen for Kids

I don’t get nervous when Maxi stays up way past her bedtime with family on the weekend- or when she finds herself in our bed. 😉  She’ll get her schedule back together by Monday. Some days she asks for ice cream non-stop and other days she surprises me with her vegetable obsession. We are at the age of meltdowns while leaving the park, and I try to not beat myself up over it. She’s 2, it’s part of her brain developing. Plus, I get pretty upset when Paul tells me we’ve got to leave the mall. 😉

But if there is one thing I’m OVERLY thoughtful about as a parent, it is sun protection. And I think we can all relate to this as mothers. It’s my job to protect her largest organ, especially being in a season of life where we are outside all of the time. She’s going to trip and fall on the playground {her little knee is proof!}. She’s going to get a little bug bite here or there- especially in humid summers. But I can protect her from the sun and I take that job as a parent seriously, as I know you do as well.

I’ve shared my love of Supergoop! sunscreen- I’ve done blog posts and Insta Stories on the facial sprays, primers, powders, etc. And today, I’m excited to share a NEW product with you mamas! Supergoop! launched Sunnyscreen SPF 50 which is a broad-spectrum sunscreen line featuring the best parent and pediatrician-approved ingredients.

The formulas contain non-nano, 100% mineral actives, and they are ideal for sensitive skin. They are blendable {easy application!}, water-resistant for 80 minutes, pediatrician-tested, hypoallergenic and synthetic fragrance- and paraben-free. My little girl is on the move {photos above are proof 😉 } and so to teach her that we apply sunscreen daily, it’s got to be an easy habit to implement. I mean, it’s hard enough to convince toddlers that there are sugar monsters in their teeth and we HAVE to brush thoroughly to get them out. The stick is SO easy and Maxi just lays on my lap while I apply it, like she’s getting a facial or something. 😉 It’s hilarious, and I’m wondering if she thinks it is makeup like mommy? The lotion blends in easily, so I just put it on her as she is on her changing pad while I get her ready in the morning. They also have a mineral sunscreen spray with calendula and chamomile extracts to soothe the skin while coconut oil and mango butter help skin feel soft & hydrated.

What’s in Sunnyscreen?

Zinc Oxide, sunflower seed oil and shea butter to nourish delicate skin, as well as extracts from camu camu and green micro algae to provide antioxidant protection. Supergoop! was uncompromising in its dedication to creating the cleanest EVER SPF and this formula is ideal for sensitive skin.

Why do I like Sunnyscreen?

We took the lotion and stick to the beach last week, and both are perfect for daily routines or travel. The lotion is sheer and non-sticky. Maxi is in the toddler phase where she doesn’t want to feel “dirty” or have her hands sticky. She’s always saying, “Mama wipe!” for her hands. This feels like her daily lotion, so she doesn’t complain about it feeling different. It’s also nourishing for her sensitive skin, which gives me 2-in-1 care for her in the morning. The stick {Maxi’s favorite!} is light and blends so quickly. I also like that I can keep in in my purse or crossbody to touch up throughout the day since sunscreen should be reapplied.

This sunscreen is also pediatrician-approved and SAFE for infants! Oh my gosh, I wish this would have been around when Maxi was an infant because I was beyond nervous with her skin taking her to Colorado in the summer when she was 6 months with the sun and elevation.

Personally, I also like that Supergoop! created 3 different sunscreen application methods for little ones. A stick for faces or days on-the-go. Lotion for the pool or morning application, as you teach your child this is a daily habit like hand washing. Or spray for busy bees you are chasing at the park! Maybe I just like options, but I think this allows a step in a routine to become simple.

Lastly, I have to say one thing that makes me proud to purchase Supergoop! again and again and again is their transparency as a company. I really encourage you all to follow them on Instagram– where they do a phenomenal job educating and shedding awareness about any concerns people have about sunscreen. They talk about recent studies, the FDA, and chemical actives. They focus on us using SPF daily, making sure the ingredient actives are safe for common use and ensuring that their products are safe and still completely effective in prevention against skin cancer and skin damage. I love to read their comments and feel like I learn so much just through their social media, which means they are doing their job well online!

Let me know if you try this for your little one! I’ll share my favorite Supergoop! products below!

Thought you might appreciate knowing: My redheaded mom gave us the inexpensive PABA, Para Amenio Benzoic Acid supplement. We never burned. At 61 I have proof that it worked.

Sugar monsters? Why have I not thought of that? Lol. Teeth brushing is a daily fight with my 2 year old.
