If you think a slip dress is just for Carrie Bradshaw, hopefully, today’s post can change your mind! I purchased my first slip dress this time last year and trust me, I was intimidated. “Where do I wear this?!” was my first thought when it came in the mail. But I kept seeing girls rock them and I wanted to recreate that effortless style they exuded. However, I’d be wearing these for day and wanted to make them a bit more conservative. Let me go ahead and tell you, the secret to the slip dress is that you use it as a layering tool! Typically, a dress can be a statement all of its own. A slip dress can be, but that’s more for night. If you want to rock one during the day, grab a few more textures and play around with it.

First, let’s talk about which slip dress to try.

Scoop Satin Slip Dress

This slip dress is a Walmart find {yay!} and the quality is fabulous. So fabulous, that after I ordered this one and wore it, I ordered it in another size so I can continue to rock this into my third trimester. In the photos above I’m wearing a size small. For size reference, I’m 5’3″ and 26 weeks pregnant. Ehh, well one app says 27. But that’s because my due date changes every single ultrasound, but you get the idea. 😉 This is not too thin or a fabric that would easily snag, which was my biggest concern while rocking this dress. I wore it out to lunch and around Maxi all day and had zero issues. This dress is $32 which is a price I know many of us deem great for trying a trend.

Speaking of trends…

This dress is also tie-dye! Tie-dye is a trend for spring and summer {you can see Walmart’s trend page here} and the reason I love it on a slip dress is it makes it more daytime friendly. While you can totally rock a nude slip dress to lunch, the tie-dye makes it a notch-less formal and a notch-more sassy. When something feels playful, it feels more approachable and less intimidating to try.

How do you style it?!

Scoop Cropped Paisley Denim Jacket

This light-wash denim jacket has paisley detail at the top and is a perfect compliment to this slip dress. It flirts with the same color story of the dress, so you can rock a blue look. I’m wearing an XS in the jacket. My sister snapped the photos of me above because I wanted to share a real-life OOTD instead of a styled look with this post, to show you just how easy it can be. While shooting, she BEGGED me to borrow the denim jacket. She was obsessed with it and thought I got it from a boutique. When I told her it was $39 she made me show her my receipt online. It’s a soft denim jacket but fitted enough to give you a more structured style.

For spring, pair this slip dress with the denim jacket and white sneakers. The denim jacket and white sneakers make it very liveable.

Styling in the summer?

We all have a favorite scoop neck tee, right?! The two-pack above from Walmart is one of my favorites! They fit so well!

For summer, throw on a scoop neck tee, and throw this slip dress on over. You can keep your same white sneakers, or toss on a neutral pair of sandals. Throw your hair in a ponytail and add some hoop earrings. This dress is light enough for hot and humid temps, but has a bit of spandex in it to keep everything smooth!

If you love the print, but still feel on the fence about trying the trend, they have this print in a cami! Shop it here.

Let me know if you’ve ever tried a slip dress and if you love this trend mixed with tie-dye!
