Yesterday’s OOTD

First and foremost, I want to thank you all a million times over for all your kind feedback in this post. It was so helpful to see what you want in outfit posts, and I’m so happy to apply that to content this fall. A few girls mentioned they appreciated editorial shoots, but really just enjoyed “real life” iPhone shots to get a better look at outfits. I definitely want to mix that in with my styled shoots, because I completely agree it helps you get a better idea on where you would wear certain pieces. I’ve been talking to girlfriends a lot lately about reality vs. styled shoots and how I have a heart for both. A huge passion of mine is styling shoots and I think if blogging went away, I’d still want to be a stylist for editorial work. I love to take a product, select a vision, and see it come to life. I firmly believe there’s a lot of positive from styled shoots, there’s inspiration to be had and a nice “escape” if you will. However, I think they have a time and a place. The juxtaposition of real-life shots and styled content can seem so great, but isn’t that life?! We have different layers as humans, and I think there’s a responsibility in content creation to know when both should apply. I’m harping too much on this, aren’t I?! I’m telling you, I could have a Ted Talk on the pros and cons of both. Off my soapbox now, but wanted to share how I want to take some outfit content going forward.

Today, I’m sharing yesterday’s simple outfit. The pictures are a tad bit grainy {it’s been raining for 2 weeks}, but the dress is such an affordable find and I’m ordering it in a few more colors. I think the dark gray and wine red are a must!

So let’s talk details. I’m 5’3″ and the XS was the perfect length for me to still wear sandals. My mom always makes comments about maxi dresses on me because she says they end up being too long {I don’t accept my height! ha!}, but the slit allows you to tie the front and I love that look. It’s a light dress, but I didn’t need to wear a slip underneath. It was $23 for me with prime and it came within a few days of being ordered.

Yesterday, Maxi was full of so much energy. By noon, we had painted, colored, done everything in the playroom, read, baked, gone to the park, had lunch at the park, and shot a post for the blog. I texted Paul and said, “We are getting out of the house for dinner!” You know those days! 😉

We ran to our favorite spot to eat, Piatello, and this is what I wore. The patio at Piatello opens up to a park, so we can take turns playing with her if she is a little antsy at dinner. She’ll get more tired, eat dinner, and then is happy coloring the rest of the evening. It’s a little trick we have learned if we want to enjoy a 2-hour dinner with a tiny tot! After dinner, we went to Lowe’s to pick up some paint for our kitchen island. Maxi girl loved Lowe’s. She’d never been and that was just sensory heaven in her book. ha. I grabbed a ton of different options and am going to do a post where we can break down different paint colors and pros and cons. I think photographing swatches will help me see how it will look all together and of course, I’d love to know if you all have used any of the paints. I’m going to pick up a few more this weekend and then do the blog post.

As always, thank you so much for spending a little bit of your day with me! Do you like maxi dresses going into fall?!

It is perfect for fall, but won’t be too hot since OK and TX never really get into fall until winter comes!!

  2. My favourite outfit shots are iPhone shots too – they’re just more genuine. If I wanted to see glossy editorial shots, I’d buy a magazine! 🙂

  4. Definitely appreciate both editorial and more everyday posts. It’s nice seeing what you wear on a more daily basis for life with a toddler, and also always fun getting a little peek into your life.

Sidenote, I have that maxi dress and it is sooooo comfy! I wore it tied up like that recently and loved how it changed the look of it!
