How to Style Spanx Leggings

When the end of September rolls around, the internet is buzzing with pumpkin spice this and pumpkin bread that. In my little corner of the internet, something else fills my feed: Spanx Leggings. They are the leggings that we can’t get enough of and maybe spend a bit too much on. If you haven’t ever tried Spanx Leggings, they do what most leggings fall short on:

They aren’t see-through, they work as pants, and they just about tone you all with their sleek fit.

I lived in their pregnancy ones, and for years I’ve owned the faux leather and the camo. But once you get these “miracle in a legging” pants in the mail, it’s easy to pick them up and think, “What do I wear with these other than an oversized turtleneck?” Because they do work as pants, but I wouldn’t just throw on any silky blouse. They are still form-fitted after all! Today, I’m sharing 6 ways to style your Spanx Leggings. The best part? These looks work very well for being at home or in more casual settings. So whether you are working-from-home or managing preschool pickup, you’ll be dressed for the occasion AND feeling great about your look.

SIZING: If you have never shopped Spanx Leggings before, make a note to size up! I’m 5’3″ and usually an xs in leggings, but always grab a small in Spanx Leggings. They are super form-fitted and don’t stretch out. But don’t let that scare you! I rock them until 20 weeks pregnant, too. They aren’t suffocating by any means, they just aren’t like the Lululemon Align legging at all, which I love. I only love leggings like that when pregnant.

How to Style Spanx Leggings

THE TURTLENECK

Sweater {size small, runs large wish I would have sized down} | Similar Tee {sized up to large for it to be long underneath} | Leggings {size small} | Similar Sneakers | Bag | Earrings

If you have a cropped turtleneck in your closet, you don’t only have to pair it with jeans! Style it with skirts or Spanx Leggings. The trick to this is getting a white tee that’s longer. The one I’m wearing is old from Madewell, but I sized up to get the length I wanted and it works well under anything shorter. Throw on some classic white sneakers and you’ve got a look that works for coffee dates and lunch.

THE WHITE BLOUSE

Blouse {Size small} | Headband | Leggings {size small} | Similar Sneakers | Necklace {15% off with code KATEY15} | Earrings

We all have that one oversized white blouse in our closet. It seems so practical and yet, if worn with certain pants it can look like a Risky Business costume moment. Pair the blouse with your Spanx Leggings! The oversized fit will cover the waist area, and by adding in clean white sneakers and a fun headband, it keeps it from feeling a bit too edgy with the faux leather texture of the leggings.

THE TUNIC

Tunic {size small, could have sized down} | Leggings {size small} | Booties {true to size} | Necklace {15% off with code KATEY15} | Earrings

My absolute favorite and I mean FAVORITE, tunics are by BuddyLove. I live in them year-round and they pair beautifully with Spanx Leggings. I love this option for a date night in the fall.

THE GRAPHIC TEE

Jacket, Similar | Tee {size small} | Boots | Leggings {size small} | Necklace {15% off with code KATEY15} | Earrings

If you’ve got an edgier style, want another date night option, or simply need to get use out of some graphic tees {don’t we all?!} this look is for you! Pair your favorite graphic tee with some over-the-knee boots, and a cropped moto jacket. The nice thing about this option is that you can truly recreate it from items you already own.

Someone woke up and wanted to be held mid-shoot. I don’t mind one bit. 😉

THE WRAP JACKET

Jacket | Similar Sneakers | Similar Tee | Hat | Leggings {size small} | Necklace {15% off with code KATEY15} | Earrings

If you’re looking for an incredibly versatile fall wardrobe item, this wrap jacket is it! I’ve had it for a few years and it is probably my favorite thing to top leggings with. Any tee or workout top works underneath it and it can be open, or close like a cape. It’s perfect for school drop off and pickup or after you workout!

THE CARDIGAN

Cardigan | Similar Sneakers | Similar Tee | Hat | Leggings {size small} | Necklace {15% off with code KATEY15}|  Similar HeadbandEarrings

Another easy look to recreate from your closet? The tan cardigan! A tan or oatmeal softens the edge of Spanx Leggings, so if you have more of a classic style, I’d definitely go this route. I’m typing this post while wearing this cardigan, so I can attest, it’s quite cozy. 😉

Whether you have a love affair with Spanx Leggings like many of us or you haven’t even tried them, I hope this gives you some inspo for shopping your closet and styling leggings this fall!

This post was so helpful! Did you buy the regular ones or maternity style when you were pregnant? I’m 19 weeks pregnant with my 2nd and would love to get a pair to wear for the holidays (when I’ll be in the end of my 2nd trimester-middle of my 3rd trimester) and to help me feel more like myself when I leave the house. Thanks Katey! P.S. love the pics of your little guy too, he’s so cute!
