Did anyone grow up having a piece of clothing passed down through siblings? Having a little sister, we shared so many special outfits from special Halloween costumes to smocked dresses. Although we were seven years apart, these items my mom splurged on remained classic and I love the photos my mom has of us in the same outfits.

When I was about 6-months pregnant, I ran into Nordstrom to meet a girlfriend for a quick bite to eat. I was waiting for her to get there and since the children’s section is right next to the restaurant at our Nordstrom, I decided to wander through. I saw a pink Burberry jacket and immediately started thinking about how my sister and I had passed down a coat in our family. I snapped a picture to Paul wanting his thoughts. He had no clue what I was even showing him, so I called my mom. I needed the shopping validation. She brought up the wise point [that all mothers do!] that I didn’t know what size Maxi would be. So I decided to pause and set aside money for Maxi’s first coat the next fall.

Around September when Paul and I took a little anniversary staycation in Dallas, we went ahead and purchased the coat while we were out and about. I know this probably sounds a little silly, but when you’ve saved for something your whole pregnancy and then get to get it for your little girl, it feels incredibly special.

I was honored when I got to partner with Nordstrom to share this look. I have been dying to share these photos with you all since the afternoon that we took them!

Now out of all the special designers that make coats, the main reason I went with the Burberry jacket is because I personally own two- thanks to Texas weather. I mean today it’s November 28th and 78 degrees! We just don’t get *that* chilly here. The traditional Burberry jacket is light enough to wear in a Southern climate, but can easily be worn with a scarf, sweater and allows you to feel bundled up. Practicality aside, I love that it is a classic. It’s quilted. It doesn’t go out of style. It’s ageless and I because of that, I like that I know I can wear this coat in 20 years. How many pieces in our closet can we honestly say that about? So with all of those factors in mind, I felt comfortable making that one splurge on Maxi’s wardrobe. Like a smocked dress or beautiful pair of leather crib shoes- this will last. Whether it’s passed down to our future children, my sister’s children, or my best friends’ daughter, I’m confident it will get a lot of use.

Now for the women’s jacket, I do typically size down in these coats, so keep that in mind! In my opinion, Burberry runs a bit snug in the shoulders and larger in the waist. However, I have broad shoulders with my body type and do still size down if that helps you with sizing. Now, if you are more petite I recommend the Ashurst at that cinches at the waist. If you want a more straight fit, go with the Frankby. I have this jacket in black [Ashurst] and in the Westbridge in cream. The cream I find I wear with dressier items and then the black I wear with everything from workout clothes to denim. This one I’m wearing is the Burberry Westbridge Quilted Jacket, which is sold out in cream but available in black or navy. However, my black one is available and has a cream option as well. They are both nearly identical in my opinion. The buttons on this one are what I feel make it a bit dressier.

Thank you so much for spending a few minutes with me and letting me share these special photos with you all! I hope you have a great day and I’d love to know, have you splurged on this jacket?!

In partnership with Nordstrom. All purchases and opinions are my own.

I saved up and also asked for Nordstrom gift cards last year for Christmas to buy the black Ashurst. It’s my absolute favorite thing in my closet. I live in Houston so with the weather I’ve been wearing it quite a bit this year. I know I’ll have it for years to come! Worth every single penny!
