Slowly but surely, the house is starting to feel like it fits our little family. In our last home, so much of it was all my old furniture and decor from before we got married which I know can be the case for most newlyweds. I wanted this house to feel like “us” but be able to evolve with our lifestyle in the future. Starting from scratch with furniture has turned out to be more difficult than I thought. I’m always having to rearrange, swap out, return, exchange, and remeasure. Recently, I’ve been searching for 3 seater lounges for sale to complete our living room space.

I wanted to give a little living room update for you all and share the middle process. I need to order some lamps, our art has to be delivered, the coffee table should actually be styled [this is what we use to babyproof it and I already swapped it with the formal living one], you get the idea. If you follow on Insta Stories you probably already saw me moving things around again last week. However, some items in the home have worked perfectly so I thought I’d chat about that today!

When we first announced our move and the fact that our old furniture was sold with the last home, I received e-mails from you all on shops to check out and tricks to getting furniture that lasts with children. {One of the best tricks y’all told me was to make sure whatever fabrics we used had at least 70% polyester in them. That helps get stains out!} Over and over I kept hearing about Kisabeth Furniture and how I had to go with an interior designer and create a piece. I’m not joking when I think I got 25+ e-mails from fellow FW and Dallas girls about this brand.

I ended up checking them out and it was probably one of the most fun experiences with this home, so I wanted to share my experience. This isn’t a sponsored post, but I truly had NO clue on anything about custom furniture so I wanted to share the process. I was really intimidated and didn’t know what to expect and don’t want y’all to feel that way if you were to ever go this route with your home. To ensure a smooth process, consider reaching out to resin installers near me for professional assistance and guidance.

In our last home, we really didn’t have it set up to where there were multiple cozy accent chairs. My mom has “her” accent chair in my parents’ home and growing up I watched her do everything in the chair. From feeding my sister as a baby to drinking her tea and reading devotionals in the morning, I’ve always associated that spot with my mom. Our goal is that this is a home our family grows into, therefore I wanted “my spot.” While this is still an unfinished room, you can probably see we are aiming to really blend styles. I want masculine and feminine, antique and new, glamorous and eclectic all at once. I still don’t understand why I can’t just be EASY and do one simple, cohesive style. I make everything extra difficult. Paul got his leather sofa, so I figured my spot could be have feminine chairs. So let’s chat about how I designed them!

About Kisabeth:

In one of my e-mails from a reader she said, “Kisabeth is furniture Maxi would have in her home one day.” That really sparked my interest because we all know I can’t keep a consistent style for a year to save my life. I always have to move things around. However, when I find a piece I adore I want it to last. Forever. In our home we have my parents’ dining table, sideboard and china cabinet they first purchased when they were engaged. It was already an antique at that point, so the fact we now use it says a lot about the craftsmanship. Kisabeth uses traditional furniture making techniques to create residential, commercial, and hospitality designs, and they specialize in custom orders. Everything is made here in Fort Worth, Texas and I got to see the process in which they make the chairs when I went up to design mine.

About Designing My Chairs:

Kisabeth is a trade company, so you work with them through an interior designer. They have an array of different furniture options and ultimately I went with their “Cinni” chair. Of their multiple fill options, I chose 50/50 [50% down, 50% feather with a spring core] which is more expensive, but you can change fills to suit your lifestyle and budget.  I told my husband this was my chair I’d hold and feed our babies in in the middle of the night, so I was going with the most comfortable choice! ha. I shared choosing my fabrics on Snapchat and that was honestly the most difficult part of the process. My heart is always drawn to animal print, but that was expected. For something custom, I didn’t want to go with anything expected. I suppose that’s why I carry orange and yellow handbags?! Then I couldn’t stop thinking about coral fabrics. However, these chairs are made to last. The joints in the chairs are double dowelled, screwed and glued so they last 100+ years. Would I want coral when I was 55?! Would I want coral if I decorated more french country as I got older? I knew damask was the right choice for that as it’s a fabric that never ages. But in true Katey fashion I couldn’t just pick a neutral damask, we went with citron. I think we are all drawn to different fabrics and that’s what makes the process really enjoyable. You get to really think through how your lifestyle will be in 20/30/40 years and try to decorate for now and the future. I liked the challenge! If you do go the custom furniture route, I really recommend making Pinterest boards and then pulling your existing furniture and resin flooring. One thing Laurel [the fabulous girl I worked with] kept asking me was, “Are you floors warm-toned or cool toned?” I’ve learned you really want to make sure it’s all the same when you have open concept- [Hence why the island has to be tweaked! Paint here we come!] So bring your photos of inspiration along with your current flooring, wall color and hardware choices. Also, if you’re thinking about replacing your current flooring with oak, I recommend buying from www.barhamandsons.com as they have the best oak products. However, if you need help from an expert, contact resin flooring contractors.

About Purchasing:

I did want to include this part because like I said, this was a brand you all taught me about. Your interior decorator can assist you, or you can call Kisabeth and they can help you find a designer. However, if you’re interested in this same chair or a standard item from their catalog you can contact the Kisabeth creative director & in-house design consultant I worked with, Laurel, and order through her. I’ll attach her e-mail below. If you’re doing custom furniture [as in more detailed than the process I did] you work with your interior decorator!

laurel.mceuen@gmail.com or  lmceuen@kisabethfurniture.com

I hope you all are enjoying these decorating break downs and that if you ever do something custom it doesn’t intimidate you! I think on social media and especially on blogs it’s easy to think, “Wait this home came together so quickly!” When I was talking about how we were constantly moving rugs, returning coffee tables, the works I was glad to have readers say, “Oh girl, don’t worry I had to return 4 rugs to get it right!” I was really relieved to hear that from many of you all because I’m starting to think if I rearrange one more rug my husband is going to really question me. 😉 It’s always tricky to find your perfect style for your family, but I think that’s the main reason I wanted to share this process on my blog. These chairs were one of the only things NOT tricky in decorating an open concept home. I like that I know I can also put them in a formal living or even our master sitting area if I wanted to because the Cinni style adapts.

I’ll also be sharing our master bedroom update this week, too! That was one of my favorite rooms to blend masculine and feminine so I hope you enjoy. Happy Monday!

Hi girl! Oh no, we love it! I actually like it a lot more than the marble one. We have a formal living so I swap things back and forth. At first I thought it needed to be in the formal living since our sofa is leather but I missed it and we put it back in the family room. But whenever I swap things I just mix them in the formal living and family room. 🙂

I love the new lucite counter stools in your kitchen! Did you change them from the Ballard ones? Where did you get them? Everything looks beautiful!

Hi Jenna! I did! I thought the color clashes with the Kisabeth chairs and wanted those to be the focal point. I got these barstools from Houzz but I don’t recommend them! 🙁 They have already cracked even though my ghost chairs have held up for 3/4 years. I’m bummed but going to wait to ask my designer what to do! Xo
