Maxi is Having a Little {Gender Reveal}

Maxi is having a little brother!

We are so thrilled to share this sweet news with you all and feel unbelievably blessed to get to experience both a little girl and a little boy. From the moment I took a pregnancy test, I looked at Paul and said, “It’s a boy.” My pregnancy symptoms were so similar to Maxi that family and friends kept saying, “Katey, I think it is a girl.” The night before we found out the gender I was at community group talking about finding out. I did not care whatsoever about gender, in fact, I didn’t even want to find out until delivery, but Paul was not on board with that. Sometimes as a pregnant mother, you feel like everyone else is so opinionated BUT you. You know what I mean, mamas. “Oh, I hope it is THIS. I hope it is THAT.” And you’re just like, “Um, I hope this baby is healthy and knows how loved they are!

But as I was driving home that night, I got emotional. I had told my community group girls earlier that when I pictured this baby as a baby, I could see either boy or girl. But when I pictured this child older, I saw a son. I kept having this vision in my head driving home of a son in the car with me and taking him to get dinner after practice at night. It was so clear it almost freaked me out. I could hear him talking, hear his name, and hear his laugh. I had to not think about it to not get my hopes up. So when the nurse called the next day, I burst into tears. I felt like God had given me that little wink the night before to show me what life would look like in 14-15 years. It felt so real.

I have always wanted a brother, and it feels so special to know Maxi will get to experience that relationship. This little boy is so loved and spoiled already. I have gotten to shop far more than I thought I would if we were having another girl. 😉 But most importantly, I feel so lucky to get to raise one of each. To raise a little girl to become a woman and to raise a little boy to become a man feels like such an honor. Whether you have all girls, all boys, or a special mix of both, I think the gift in it all is that you don’t pick. This perfect fit for your family is selected for you, and it’s so exciting to get this little peak while pregnant at what God has called us to raise. I am most excited to experience that mother/son bond that so many women describe. The fierce admiration a son has for his mama is something everyone tells me about, but I don’t think I’ll fully grasp until I watch this sweet little boy grow up. Bring on the snips and snails, and puppy dogs’ tails. I can’t wait to see what our son is made of and get to know him. I have tears in my eyes typing this post {thank you, pregnancy hormones} because, at the end of the day, my only goal is for my children to know how loved, prayed for, and adored they are. Maxi is so excited, she brings me her babies and says, “This is like Baby {his name}, I’m going to rock him.” And she has loved helping me get his nursery ready. I can’t believe he will be here in just 5 months’ time, and it will feel like I’ve never known life without him.

      Aw yes!! How sweet to raise brothers! Paul works in oil and his clients give him those, so they are Maxi’s. But she has like ZERO interest in them, so I’m sure she will happily pass them down to her brother. bahaha. Thank you so much! xx, Katey

    Katey, this post has me in tears! Tears of joy and excitement for you and your growing family! I’ve been a follower of yours back when you lived in the most fabulous apartment in Dallas and you becoming a mom has been my most favorite thing. I grew up for most of my life knowing with certainty I’d want kids of my own one day, but as I hit 22, the feeling went away. I had done a complete 180 and decided I’d never be a mom, I just wanted to be selfish forever but reading one of your post about what it meant to you to be a mom truly changed my perspective. You talking about being trusted with the opportunity to raise a child of God on this Earth opened my eyes to the joy of one day being trusted with the same joy from our Heavenly Father. Thank you for that and thank you for this post! Thank you for sharing your life with us readers!!

Admittedly, I’m a bit terrified of the boy world – I’m a girl mom to the bone. Hi Rachel! Congratulations!!! I’m so excited for you! You know, I think having the opposite gender of what you already have is intimidating for a few reasons. I actually had two friends over yesterday that have boys and are pregnant with girls, and they were borrowing some of Maxi’s baby clothes, both SO nervous on how to go from being a boy mom to a girl mom. We were talking about how we think it’s just that second-time mom nerves and has so much to do with wondering how you’ll give two babies your full attention. But everyone I know says once you have your second it is the most natural thing in the world, and you almost love them more intensely faster than your first because you know the depth of love you have for your children. I’m not sure if that makes sense, but just know you aren’t alone! I was talking my friends through bows and pink swaddles as they will teach me the boy ropes! haha.
